So the $COMPANY I used to work for laid-off a bunch of people including me. Its probably a case of $COMPANY getting to big too quickly. Which is usually the case around these parts. So I am officially looking for work. If there are any openings for an Intermediate Linux Admin or Linux software engineer then let me know (remote or local to Ottawa). I can be reached at zulcss @ gmail.com |

| Xen and Gutsy and Liam |
[Apr. 29th, 2007|03:39 pm] |
First of all thanks to Ben Collins for getting the new kernel build system up and running. This makes it easier for 3rd party patches such as Xen to port and keep updated with the git repository.
With respect to Xen for gutsy we will be using 3.0.5. Currently it is in release testing mode and we will be using a 2.6.22 kernel. So you don't have to use any third party repository. And you will be able to use third party drivers that Ubuntu uses as well.
Liam is finally home from the hospital after 45 days in the hospital (ottawa general hospital and CHEO) Why was he in the hospital so long? Well he had open heart surgery when he was 5 days old To fix an interrupted aortic arch and a Ventrical Septic Defect. So he had surgery which lasted 5 hours. However the real kick in the nuts is that the night after his surgery he went into cardiac arrest. Of course this freaked us out and what turned into a 7-10 day recovery turned into a 45 day recovery.
So the recovery was kind of crappy for both his mother and I, there was nothing much we could do but wait. However he is home now on his feeding tube we just got to get him to eat from the bottle more and everything will be fine.
After surgery:

Nowish:

On another note we will be getting proper openvz support. |

| More Updates and 2.6.17 |
[Oct. 1st, 2006|07:45 pm] |
I think its time for another update with regards to XEN in edgy. Lets see what has changed:
- A new kernel based off of the edgy git repository. - Updated Xen to 3.0.3rc1 with a couple of bug fixes. - An initial version of Xen restricted modules which contains the nvidia drivers.
Come and get it while its hot. |

| XEN updates for Edgy |
[Sep. 12th, 2006|07:23 pm] |
So..
I decided to update Xen for edgy to a newer snapshot of the xen-unstable tree. Like most things, there have been a few bugs that were introduced in a newer snapshot. I am glad to say the bugs are now fixed. The changes include the following:
* Updated to the latest stable kernel for 2.6.16.y. * A generic kernel for x86 and amd64. * A whole bunch of 3rd party wireless drivers that are found in the normal Edgy kernel (ie: bcm43xx. acx100, zd1211w, etc) * Ndiswrapper support.
So what does this mean? Like Edgy's kernel, the generic kernel should work for most x86 flavors and the amd64-generic should work for most flavors of am64. If it doesn't please report bugs in launchpad. Please do not email me with bug reports, I get a lot of email a day and might not see your email.
On the Nvidia front, Mithrandir was testing a patch that is being used for nvidia users running XEN. I hope to have the xen-restricted-modules packaged soon. |

| XEN 3.0 for Ubuntu |
[Aug. 20th, 2006|02:44 pm] |
So after much gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair. XEN 3.0 is available for edgy on both amd64 and x86. The packages are found in the universe repository under xen-hypervisor-3.0-i386 or xen-hypervisor-3.0-amd64 and xen-image-xen0-2.6.16-(flavour). To create host images you can use xen-utils.
The instructions to get most everything going can be found on Ubuntu's wiki:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenOnEdgy
Feed back is welcome and you can create bugs in launchpad so it can be tracked properly. However there are a couple of things you have to know about the xen-kernels:
- They dont have any third party drivers as we do in the edgy-kernel.
- The kernel is based off of 2.6.16. I am working on 2.6.18 as we speak.
- Nvidia video drivers need to be re-configured to get it to work properly. Instructions can be found:

If you have any questions let me know. |

So I just stared this thing so I can keep users up to date with XEN running on Ubuntu.
Anyways my name is Charles, and I work on XEN for Ubuntu. I am also on the core team and the kernel team. And in my copius spare time I try to make a world a better place (depending on the time of day). |
